One-on-One Client Advocacy

The Life Center of Long Island has been on Long Island for over 30 years. Our goal is to educate the women and men who come to us by providing honest and compassionate counseling about the numerous resources available so they can make a truly informed and empowered decision regarding their pregnancy. We are committed to offering honest information on an array of subjects, including pregnancy symptoms, abortion, adoption, parenting, STDs/STIs, and sexual health. Accurate information about abortion procedures and risks is included. We have three locations: Deer Park, Hempstead, and Massapequa, all on Long Island. One-on-one consultations with Client Advocates can help our clients process the information shared and address all the factors surrounding their unplanned pregnancy on such topics as: parenting classes, relationships, financial education, assistance with obtaining health insurance and access to medical care, education completion, career development, and “safe” housing.

Fertility Awareness & Appreciation

Natural Family Planning (NFP) is the general title for the scientific, natural, and moral methods of family planning that can help married couples either achieve or postpone pregnancies. NFP methods are based on the observation of the naturally occurring signs and symptoms of the fertile and infertile phases of a woman’s menstrual cycle. No drugs, devices, or surgical procedures are used to avoid pregnancy. Since the methods of NFP respect the love-giving (unitive) and life-giving (procreative) nature of the conjugal act, they support God’s design for married love!

Specifics discussed:

    • Is NFP based on guesswork?
    • Who can use NFP?
    • What are the methods of NFP?
    • What are the signs of fertility?
    • How does NFP work?
    • What are the benefits of using NFP?
    • How effective are NFP methods for avoiding pregnancy?
    • Where can I learn how to use NFP?

After-Abortion Healing

After Abortion Recovery and Healing Programs are offered at all centers. We recognize that many people experience unresolved feelings after an abortion. For some, these feelings surface right after terminating a pregnancy. For others, these feelings surface years later. For those who find they have unresolved feelings after an abortion and need help, the Life Center is here for them. Client advocates are available to meet with clients one-on-one.

The Life Center offers an eight-week support group, which is a confidential environment for women to speak about their past abortions with others who share similar experiences. We have available a post-abortion Bible Study called Surrendering the Secret – Healing the Heartbreak of Abortion. This is an interactive Bible study, with meaningful group experiences and unique journaling exercises. While Biblical scripture is used to facilitate healing and hope, women from all faith backgrounds, including no faith background, are welcome.

Healing a Father’s Heart

This post-abortion Bible study helps men acknowledge and face their inner turmoil. The authors walk hurting men through the stages of post-abortion stress, helping them move out of denial about the past and into acceptance and forgiveness. Men will learn about God’s unchanging, loving character and His desire to forgive them and heal their father-hearts.

Community Resources Assistance

We Offer:

    • Adoption referrals
    • Community referrals, such as housing and employment
    • Medical referrals for prenatal care
    • If appropriate, continuing education through select local colleges

Male Advocacy

We have trained male advocates who speak with our male clients about speaking with his partner to provide her with the support she needs, emotionally and physically. We help a man to actively listen to his wife/girlfriend and always keep the lines of communication open between the two of them. In addition to keeping the lines of communication open between the two of them, it is important to discuss the situation with parents and others who will be directly affected. We help him to collect information and seek advice from people he trusts.

EWYL – Earn While You Learn

EARN WHILE YOU LEARN is a program based on a simple belief that providing useful knowledge and aid to those in crisis pregnancies is a vital part of a successful pregnancy help center. By teaching the skills a young woman needs along with supplying items that can help her become a successful Mother, EWYL empowers pregnancy help centers to offer a real and meaningful choice to those who choose life. The program also builds relationships, gives real life skills that will impact generations, and creates openings for the counselor to share Christ. EWYL is not just a curriculum; it is a way of empowering parents to make real and permanent changes that will enhance their family unit for generations to come. EWYL was designed from the beginning to change the paradigm for a generation that has grown up on handouts. Instead of giving away items to anyone who asks, the EWYL program allows the client to “earn” the items through learning how to be a better parent. This double-pronged method gives value to the items given away while imparting knowledge that will ultimately prepare clients to be responsible and able mothers to their children. Plus, hundreds of centers have found that their clients have a sense of pride and accomplishment in the work they are doing and how their parenting is improving.
